Emily inquired with me back in early summer, about being their wedding photographer. I was so excited that I was available on their date next summer! Not only are they a gorgeous couple, but their reception is going to be a new winery in town that hasn’t even opened yet! The thought of all of the weddings I could capture, right here in my home town, that gives me all the feels.
It seemed only fitting that we capture their engagement photos at another local winery, South River Vineyard . This winery is such a dream to photograph at! It has beautiful architecture, all built around an old church, and gorgeous acres of vineyards. I always try to plan engagement sessions around sunset, and boy did we get the most gorgeous sunset ever!! Pair all of that beauty with an amazing couple, and Emily’s to-die-for ring, and I would say it was one of my best engagement sessions ever.
It was fate that I even got to meet Bri & Dwight. Their original photographer did not show up to their engagement session, even though the couple had driven four hours to have them taken in their hometown. This is when they reached out to me, and I am so glad they did!!
These two grew up in Northeast Ohio, and that is exactly where they wanted to have their engagement session. One of their favorite spots is an awesome coffee shop in Ashtabula Harbor, called Harbor Perk . They even had a coffee waiting for me when I arrived! Ashtabula Harbor is such an adorable area, we had to stroll down the street a little to capture it’s charm.
Just in time for sunset hour, we made it to Grand River Cellars in South Madison. This winery is so beautiful! Not only did we use their beautiful vineyard, but we even found fields of wildflowers. There was this little incident with a bug flying in to Dwight’s mouth, but don’t worry, I captured that hilarious moment too!
These two were hands down one of my most fun engagement sessions to date. They never stop smiling and laughing together, such natural fits together, it is inspiring. My husband John & I went a little early to Fairport Harbor, a small town along Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio, to grab some dinner before the engagement session. While eating we kept looking outside and noticing, after living just 20 minutes away our whole lives, what a cute little town it is. I am SO glad that we chose this for Stacy & David’s session! And even more happy that we had such beautiful weather and a gorgeous sunset!
Now throw in the beautiful artwork on their bodies, and it is even more perfect! If you know me at all, I LOVE tattoos! And these two have some amazing work on themselves!!
Now do you get it? Do you see how adorable these two are together?! I am SO excited for their intimate backyard wedding next month!!! Picture this: sunset hour, a willow tree next to a pond, and this beautiful couple….It is going to be picture perfect!!!!
It is April 17, 2018. It is a Tuesday. It is tax day. It is someone’s birthday, heck it is someone’s wedding day somewhere! It is also snowing…again!! OVER IT!!! OK, I know that this is Northeast Ohio, and it can snow at any time. BUT, it has been snowing since October, and we are SO OVER IT!! I mean seriously, it has been six whole months of this stuff. The daffodils are coming up, and they want to bloom damn it! We want sunshine, vitamin D! But instead, I am watching this snow accumulate on my Kia. Freaking winter wonderland outside my kitchen window! OK, end rant. Enjoy some of my most favorite Northeast Ohio photo sessions in the snow. Yup, we embraced it at the time. But come on people, it is mid-April, it is time for SPRING! Well, let’s make the best of it, enjoy the portraits in the snow!
We had some weddings…..
And some engagements….
This engagement was from the first snowfall in Northeast Ohio!
We even had some maternity sessions in the snow!
And last, but not least, even a senior session!
Here in Northeast Ohio, we have no choice but to embrace the snow. Do we hate it, especially by mid-April? Absolutely! Do we have every right to complain about it? YES!! But, let’s choose to see the silver lining…We can and do make beautiful portraits in it!! So, in conclusion, let us all agree that snow accumulating in April does suck. But, think of it this way…It can’t last through June right? Come on Mother Nature, it is almost wedding season! Get it together!!
I have know Liz & Matt for a lot of years, having worked together long before they were even a couple. We all met while working at the Redhawk Grille, and still work together. Matt was even featured in The News Herald when they wrote an article about the Redhawk Grille. I had the pleasure of watching these two fall in love, from the first beer after work, through the sunflower field proposal, and now while they plan their wedding. I could not be more honored and excited to be their wedding photographer!
We had been planning their engagement session for months. Liz did an incredible job choosing and coordinating their outfits! We met at South River Vineyard for the first half of their session, Liz’s mom even bringing their fur baby Benji. Because, what’s an engagement session without your doggie?! South River Vineyard is a beautiful Northeast Ohio winery, with acres of sprawling vineyards, the premises even being remodeled from an old church. An amazing spot for year round events, family get togethers, dates, and even photo opportunities…and of course, delicious wine.
After exploring the winery, we ventured a few miles north to Geneva on the Lake, and just in time for sunset. Lake Erie rarely disappoints with a beautiful sunset. Can you tell it was only 32 degrees along the Lake? You wouldn’t know it by all that gorgeous warm sunset light! I love shooting in Geneva on the Lake, especially during the off season when we have the streets to ourselves. There are so many amazing photo opportunities, from the Lake, to the ferris wheel at Old Firehouse Winery (even when the seats are missing), to the famous Eddie’s Grill (best burgers and fries in Geneva on the Lake), and all of the colorful spots in between. Liz & Matt complimented it all.
Liz & Matt’s wedding is October 21, 2018 at The Grand Barn at the Mohicans . I am so excited about this venue, it will suite their woodsy wedding theme just perfectly. I love working along side Liz at Redhawk Grille , and being able to hear all the planning and details along the way is so much fun, just this week I learned of their wedding hashtag #LaydenInLove. I know their wedding is going to one of my favorites this year, and I can’t wait to see these two tie the knot!!
Last weekend, I had an engagement session in downtown Cleveland, with the most amazing couple. Sarah & Matthew were such a pleasure to be around, we had so much fun exploring the city and finding things and places that we did not even knew existed. We started at a very popular spot, East 4th Street, which is a booming part of the city’s nightlife.
How adorable is this Northeast Ohio couple?! I am SO excited to be there wedding photographer as well! They are getting married December 23, 2018 at the gorgeous Windows on the River in Cleveland’s historic First Energy Powerhouse building. Can you even imagine how beautiful their wedding is going to be?! I can’t wait to take their wedding images at this dream venue!!
We wandered away from East 4th Street, and headed to Cleveland Public Square, which if you haven’t visited, you should!! There are so many great spots for photos, along with so many spots to visit and enjoy the day. Did you know that there is even a Taco Bell Cantina, where they serve margaritas? Yes, please! It is located just down from the House of Blues, which is another awesome Cleveland hot spot.
On our way to the Free Stamp (those not from Cleveland, it is a giant rubber stamp statue, and it is pretty cool), we discovered a part of the city that none of us even knew existed. This huge open space, close to Lake Erie and the Browns stadium. Like Matt said, it didn’t even look like Cleveland, it was so cool!!
How did this beautiful couple meet? They met at a coffee shop in college, just a simple meeting and look at them now. Matt proposed while they were visiting his family in Pittsboro, North Carolina for the holidays. On Christmas Eve, Matt took Sarah out to a nice restaurant for dinner, and after took her to see some beautiful twinkle lights and get some photos together. That is when he popped the question, and how fitting that their wedding will be just two days before Christmas this year!
Now, I bet you can see and understand why I am so excited for Sarah & Matt’s Cleveland wedding this year! Not that I want to fast forward through summer, but seriously, it is going to be an epic wedding.
Just last month, I attended the my fourth AKP Retreat, in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was, as always, an amazing experience. We spent four days exploring the city, talking business and photography, and meeting new and amazing faces. I find it ironic that this retreat was a year after my first AKP Retreat in Nashville, Tennessee. It was that retreat that changed my entire business, my focus, and my continued education. I cannot thank my dear friend, Aston Kelley-Werkmeister of Ashton Kelley Photography, enough for all that she has taught me, encouraged me, and inspired me. Not only in my business and photography, but in my personal life. I love you girl, I know you are reading this!!
Ashton knew of a fellow wedding photographer & her husband, both the team of Megan Crawford Photography in New Orleans. She reached out to Megan & Jarred, as the time we were there they were celebrating their five year anniversary. Lucky us, we got the honor of capturing their wedding anniversary photos! We had so much fun exploring the Garden District of New Orleans with these two. Such a sweet & gorgeous couple, and so in love!
I had to throw in there some behind the scenes shots of my goofy friends, lol, so you all can see how much fun we have when shooting together. I love my AKP girls!! The trust and bonds we share are forever. These are my people.
I fell in love with New Orleans, and am now dreaming of going back as a destination wedding photographer. In another blog, I can show you two more couples sessions we did outside of the Garden District, in the French Quarter. I can find beauty anywhere, I can find the light and shadows anywhere, and I can make beautiful photographs anywhere for my clients. Planning a destination wedding in New Orleans, or anywhere in the world? I am your girl.
Let’s talk about style. These two are the perfect example of what to where to your anniversary session, and even an engagement session. The mix of beautiful florals on Megan’s dress, combined with the clean blue suit that Jerrod wore, it is perfection. Have I ever mentioned how much I love a flowy skirt or dress in a session? They photograph beautifully!
I am a Northeast Ohio Wedding & Portrait Photographer, based out of a small Lake County town, called Madison. But, I have a wanderlust soul, and want to see the world. My goal for 2018 is to book my first destination wedding, and I can’t wait to see it happen! I would love to go back to New Orleans, but would also love to explore Maine, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico(I will be there in June!), South Carolina, and much more.
Take a look back soon, for more couple’s from New Orleans!
